On Thursday launch event for Microsoft Windows 7 had finished in New York. It was very launch simple launch unlike XP and Vista launch. This shows that the companies are not spending too much launch and may be spending the same to money to do other marketing activities or making stronger distribution network. In this launch Microsoft is more concentrated on providing the useful and unique features to media/customers by showing videos, photos. Microsoft had not talked on security, stability, compatibility of this OS.
Windows 7 launch was not an exciting, but still Microsoft has many hopes on their new OS. Forrester Research shows that 66% of people want to upgrade their existing OS to Windows 7. In that report nearly 50% of people said they did not have definite plans as to when that upgrade would happen and rest will upgrade till mid 2010.
Chris Liddell, Microsoft's CFO on Friday optimistically said "We are staying reasonably cautious about the [business PC] upgrade cycle; certainly we expect it to begin next year, but we talk about it spreading maybe over a couple of years so I would like to think that we would start to see much better business PC numbers year-over-year next calendar year,"
Though the company officials are very enthusiastic about the success of windows 7 but market has some different views on that. According to article written by Brisbane Times; people are not worried about the operating system they were used, they are more bother about the applications and software on which they want to perform a particular function. Moreover some people will not upgrade to Windows 7 as pirated software will run on that. Today Nintendo has announced to cut down the rates of its popular Wii Console by 55 dollars to 220 dollars in Japan from October 1. In United States these will lowered by 50 dollars to 200 dollars. This is the first time that Nintendo has dropped the price of Wii console since its launch.
This news is not good for Britishers, as the company has increase the price by £20 in Britain. This hike was also the first hike of the company in Britain since its launch three years back.
When Media asked the explanation about this price hike the Nintendo official said it brought in the change to cope with fluctuating currency exchange rates. But market experts felt that this price hike is a controversial price hike as all the other companies are slashing their prices to encash the Christmas session.
The other two companies Microsoft and Sony both had already reduced the prices of their gaming consoles to break the dominance of Wii.
In August Sony unveiled a slim version of its PlayStation 3 videogame console priced at 299 dollars in the United States and also reduced prices of their existing models. PlayStation 3 sales exceeded 1 million units in the three weeks following the price cut.
Though PlayStation and XBOX has already reduced their prices but according to market experts there will not any type effect on Wii but still it needs some improvement. Colin Sebastian, an analyst says "The Wii is still the top-selling platform, but there is no doubt the console needs a shot in the arm, particularly with the competition finally getting more aggressive”. Companies selling figures are also supporting Mr. Colin’s statement. Nindento has sold more than 50 million Wii gaming console, Microsoft sold more than 30 million Xbox players and Sony has sold about 24 million PS3s.
